The photographs evoke a timeless appeal, arousing a deep longing and reverence for this unique country and its palpable heritage. Timing, light and composition are critical elements that bring this collection to life, with each photograph depicting its own significance and allure.

“Some of the images are difficult to date.” says Grant. “There is no time stamp and they will be as relevant in the future as much as they are today. If one experiences an emotional connection to Israel through my work and is happily absorbed by it, I will have achieved my purpose."

Avraham Borshevsky, Israel’s eminent master (sofer-STaM) Hebrew scribe and Judacia artist has been generous with his guidance and advice and I have found Chaim Nahman Bialik’s poem El Hatzipor, to be particularly inspirational in creating this collection.”

The poem centres around a conversation the poet has with a migratory bird that has returned to Europe from Israel for the summer. He welcomes the bird with a barrage of questions about his homeland he has yet to see. Bialik’s writing is beautifully demonstrated in this stanza:

Sing, tell, dear bird,
From a land of wondrous distance,
are the troubles and suffering great
there too in the warm and beautiful land?
Does the dew descend as pearls on Mount Hermon?
Does it come down and fall like tears?
And how is the Jordan and its clear waters?
And how are the mountains, the hills?

The gematria-inspired numbered photographs are meticulously chronicled. Each print is signed and created using only the finest archival materials with an interpretation of the menorah blind-embossed into the smooth cotton paper which is acid and lignin-free.

Beit Halochem and Magen David Adom are the preferred beneficiaries .
